Who We Are
Welcome to the Minnesota Cycling Federation!
Minnesota Cycling Federation is a group of cycling enthusiasts and advocates passionate about advancing the sport of bike racing. We are also the local association for the national governing body, USA Cycling.
Our Story
The Minnesota Cycling Federation (MCF) was born out of a love affair with the open road, the thrill of descents, and the camaraderie of the peloton. We’ve pedaled through rain-soaked mornings, conquered steep climbs, and celebrated victories together. Our story is woven with the threads of determination, passion, and a shared love for the bike.
We’re not a corporate entity; we’re a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization powered by a collective of volunteers who dedicate their time, energy, and expertise to make cycling better for everyone. We’re a member-organized and member-driven organization comprised of local racing teams, cycling clubs, event organizers and race promoters, and individual cyclists.
Our Mission
The MCF exists to advance the sport of bicycle racing by providing leadership, facilitating competition, and inspiring participation in all forms of cycling. At the heart of the MCF lies a simple yet powerful idea: to pedal forward, together.
We’re committed to:
Our Members: We are an organization created by and for our members. We make our plans, drive our actions, and make decisions in the best interest of our members. Our members are diverse and have diverse and often conflicting goals and objectives. We keep and are committed to maintaining an open dialogue with all our members to ensure we meet their needs.
Racing Development, Access & Promotion: Our love for the sport knows no bounds. We help facilitate, organize, and create access to and awareness of bicycle races and related training events across the sport’s many disciplines. From road races, time trials, and criteriums to off-road events, including cyclocross, gravel, fat bike, and mountain bike events, our goal is to help riders of all levels find and have access to racing and training opportunities that challenge their abilities. Whether you’re a seasoned racer or a newbie, there’s an event for you.
Grassroots are the Future of Cycling: The MCF is committed to building and rebuilding the sport of bike racing by sponsoring and advocating for opportunities for Minnesota youth to get on bikes and stay on bikes throughout their lives. Creating growth pathways for junior cyclists is a central tenant of the MCF mission.
Community Engagement: Cycling isn’t just about pedals and gears—it’s about people. We foster a vibrant cycling community where riders connect, share stories, and inspire one another. Our members' energy and ideas power our community. Join us for group rides, workshops, and social events.
Building Foundations: The MCF is committed to helping its members master the fundamental skills that build solid racing and training foundations and the capacity for riders to grow with the sport safely and securely in their capabilities, knowledge, and experience. We encourage our members to be foundation builders and help them organize training events and clinics that create better, stronger, safer, and more resilient riders.
Advocacy: We champion cycling as a sustainable, healthy, lifelong, and eco-friendly mode of recreation and transportation. From bike lanes to health and safety initiatives, we work tirelessly with our members, bicycle advocacy groups, industry groups, and the regional communities where we ride and race to create a cycling-friendly environment across Minnesota.
Communication, Transparency & Accountability: Maintaining a strong, vibrant, multi-channel communications platform is central to the success of our mission, and we value transparency and accountability in our decision-making process. We recognize when we make mistakes, take accountability, and address problems in open dialogue with our members and our community.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: We are committed to diversity in our organization, community, and member base. We believe in equitable treatment and the elimination of discrimination in all its forms. We align our policies, practices, and resources so that people of all ages, ethnicities, genders, gender identities, languages, nationalities, physical, mental, and developmental disabilities, parental statuses, sexual orientations, races, religions, skin colors, and socioeconomic statuses have equal access to the opportunity to compete and thrive in the cycling community we serve. We aim to create an environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
Integrity: Do the right thing, always. The MCF is committed to acting with integrity and ethical decision-making across its activities.
Competition: We expect our members to compete fairly, safely, and honorably. We want our members to have fun and be good sportspeople, regardless of the outcome, win, lose, place, or DNF.
